Faculty Course Reserve Requests Being Processed Now

The deadline for Faculty Course Reserve requests for the first 2 weeks of the semester is here. Please submit them ASAP so we can ensure your requests can be fulfilled on time. We are, of course, always accepting your Course Reserve Requests throughout the semester and will work hard to provide this service in an accurate and timely manner.

Some of our most popular services include:

Electronic Reserves. We now scan directly from library-owned materials – you are no longer required to make photocopies first. All the library needs is a complete citation, your name, and the course prefix and number.

Electronic items in the library catalog that can be linked directly to your reserves list.

• Based on Faculty feedback, more enhancements are in process for the near future, including video streaming reserves, a nice addition to our current audio streaming reserves.

We’re happy to assist with reserve questions such as loan periods, copyright guidelines, or anything else as you prepare for this semester!  Please contact Carol Bellamy at 704.687.3713, go to the Reserves webpage or drop by our Service Desk located on the library’s second floor.

And remember, please send your Course Reserve requests to Atkins Library as soon as possible, particularly for items needed during the first two weeks of classes. You can send your requests directly from our Reserves Request webpage or by email to reserves@uncc.edu.

Atkins Library looks forward to working with you this year!

Atkins Library Welcomes New Leader August 1st

Stanley Wilder, associate dean, River Campus Libraries, University of Rochester, has been named UNC Charlotte’s university librarian. His appointment is effective Aug. 1.

According to Joan Lorden, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, Wilder “is highly respected as a thought leader for the profession [in academic research libraries]” and is known by his colleagues “as an innovator who has removed barriers to access library resources.” Wilder said he was impressed with the level of support Atkins Library received from University leaders and across campus. “The UNC Charlotte community clearly loves its library and understands how a strong library contributes to teaching and research. Inside the library and out, UNC Charlotte exudes a strong sense of aspiration, a committed resolve to be great. All of this speaks well for the work that brought the University to this point and prospects for success in the future. I am honored to have become a part of it.”

As university librarian, Wilder will oversee the vision, services and technology for the J. Murrey Atkins Library as it adapts to the University’s emerging needs of a student population projected to increase to 35,000 by 2020. Implementing a strong engagement approach with faculty, staff, students and the community, Wilder has successful experience in areas such as collection development, digital scholarship, scholarly communications and fund raising. He currently oversees a $3 million project funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that will result in, according to Wilder, an “open source search system unifying retrieval of print and electronic scholarship.”

Prior to his work at the University of Rochester, Wilder served as assistant dean for technical and financial services and assistant to the dean for administrative services at the Louisiana State University Libraries.

The J. Murrey Atkins Library and UNC Charlotte warmly welcome Stanley Wilder!
