Laptop Lending Notice

We are pleased that our Laptop Lending service is of great benefit to students, faculty and staff!  Please note, however, laptop returns or checkouts are not available one hour prior to closing.  This is to ensure the Circulation Desk is able to follow required closing procedures before the building is locked. The 24 hour lending period remains the same.

Again, please return or checkout laptops before the one hour to closing mark – remember you may return your laptop the next day, as long as the time is within your 24 hour lending period.

Please contact the Circulation Desk for any questions. Thank you!

Library Awarded Grant to Purchase Book Collections

The J. Murrey Atkins Library has been awarded an “EZ Strengthening Public and Academic Library Collections” Grant in the amount of $10,000.00. These monies are being used to purchase books regarding Pulmonary Medicine for UNC Charlotte’s new Baccalaureate Program in Respiratory Therapy. According to Dr. Joe Coyle, with the Department of Kinesiology, this grant will be used to add a collection of over “100 high quality texts in the areas of respiratory care, pulmonary pathology and critical care medicine”.

Lisa Nickel and Lois Stickell, both from Atkins Library, worked closely with the program’s faculty to “select the most significant texts for the program”, stated Dr. Coyle. He also noted, “These additions will be tremendously useful not only to the BSRT students and faculty but to anyone in the University with an interest in these subjects.”

The State Library of North Carolina (a division of the Department of Cultural Resources) administers the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant program. This program, funded from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), funds projects across the state that help libraries deliver learning opportunities for a lifetime, support libraries in their mission to provide cost-effective access to the Internet and as well as information expertise and make library resources more accessible to all users.

Atkins Library’s $10,000.00 grant will cover 79% of the total cost of the program, resulting in 21% (or $2,696.00) of the cost being financed by nongovernmental sources.
