Off-Campus, Non-UNC Charlotte Groups   Information Literacy and UNC Tomorrow

The following guidelines and procedures have been developed in order to be good neighbors and friends to off-campus groups while at the same time serving the needs of students, faculty and staff of UNC Charlotte.

Scheduling a Visit

All group visits to J. Murrey Atkins Library need to be arranged and scheduled through the Instructional Services Coordinator, Donna Gunter (704-687-4941).  Unscheduled visits will not be accepted.

In order to plan appropriately, a two-week advance notice is required in order to schedule a group visit.

Please schedule your visit with the Instructional Services Coordinator before you schedule a bus.

Please contact the Instructional Services Coordinator as soon as you realize your group needs to visit the library.

Individual groups must be limited to 30 and must be accompanied by adults.

Teachers are encouraged to make an appointment with the Instructional Services Coordinator to review library resources before the group visit.

We encourage the group teacher to go through the library's virtual tour prior to the  visit.

Classroom instruction may be available for outside groups during the months of November, December, April, and May.   However, off-campus groups are welcome to come to the library during other times of the year for self-guided work or for walking tours; you are still required to schedule any visit through the Instructional Services Coordinator.

During The Visit

Group leaders should maintain discipline and appropriate behavior among group members.

Group leaders should supervise students during the visit and assist them with their library searches.

The group leader must, in the event of classroom instruction, see that the room is returned to its designated arrangement.  No software may be loaded onto library computers.  Computer system equipment may not be unplugged or altered.  Furniture may not be rearranged.

Conclusion of the Visit

Please maintain an orderly and quiet atmosphere as students are assembled to depart the library.
