Most papers at UNC Charlotte are written in APA Style (for Social Science and Business Classes) or MLA Style (for English and Humanities Classes). If your teacher doesn't specify a style, use either one of these.

Parenthetical (in-text citations):
Style guides differ on how these are formatted in the body of your paper. In general a parenthetical citation is needed each time you:

• Quote or repeat another person's words;
• Use a descriptive phrase/jargon developed by another person;
• Paraphrase another person's words or argument;
• Integrate someone else's ideas.
